Most people on Market92 are genuine. These habits protect you from the few who aren’t.
Looking for work
- Never pay to get a job. Not for forms, training, uniforms, medicals or “processing”. Report any job that asks.
- Research the company. Look for a real address, website or CAC number.
- Attend interviews in offices or public places, tell someone where you are going, and be wary of interviews in hotels or private homes.
Buying
- Inspect the item in person and test it before paying.
- Meet in busy public places during the day — a mall car park or a bank is better than a quiet street.
- Be cautious of prices far below market value and sellers who pressure you to pay quickly.
- Avoid paying the full amount upfront for items you haven’t seen.
Selling
- Confirm payment has actually arrived in your account before handing over goods — fake transfer alerts are common.
- Don’t share one-time passwords (OTP) or banking PINs with anyone.
Renting or buying property
- Always inspect the property. Don’t pay an inspection fee to someone you haven’t verified.
- Ask for a written breakdown of rent, agency, legal and caution fees before paying.
- For purchases, have a lawyer verify the title document at the land registry.
- Pay to company or landlord accounts in exchange for a receipt and tenancy agreement.
